The Alarms Systems Coordinator is responsible for actively managing the quantity and quality of alarms coming into the control rooms as well as developing and maintaining Control Room standards and procedures regarding the type and number of alarms received. The Alarms Systems Coordinator is responsible for actively managing the quantity and quality of alarms coming into the control rooms as well as developing and maintaining Control Room standards and procedures regarding the type and number of alarms received. Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Maintain alarms within the guidelines of PHMSA Protocols, API 1167 and other industry standards such as EEMUA 191 and ISA 18.02.
- Interface with Alarm System Programmers to ensure accuracy of tools which are used to record, sort, and track alarm load received by console.
- Monitor nuisance alarms on a daily basis to identify the most problematic and to coordinate with other groups to ensure timely resolutions are made to eliminate the cause of unnecessary alarms. Solutions may include but are not limited to;
1. Identifying instrumentation errors
2. Verification of rationalization of nuisance alarms
3. Retrain operator response to alarms
4. SCADA reconfiguration of nuisance alarms - Serve as Alarm Management custodian of Enterprise Management of Change (MOC) process.
- Implement both short term and long term audit standards.
- Present Alarm Management Philosophy and Procedures to incoming controllers in a classroom setting as needed.
- Present Alarm Management Philosophy and Procedures to existing controllers in a classroom setting on a yearly basis.
- Annually assist in revision to Alarm Management Philosophy and Procedures.
- Actively participate in all Control Room Management activities associated with alarm management.
- Coordinate with various technical groups on projects to ensure the control consoles have appropriate alarm configuration and control.
- Maintain detailed reports and procedures for Alarm Management to include daily alarms, alarm floods, nuisance alarms, vintage alarms, and time to acknowledge alarms.
- Design and maintain controller workload study statistics and metrics.
- Maintain a master alarm database.
- Participate in internal audits on the alarm system and be prepared for Regulatory Agency audits to the Alarm Management program.
- Assist with documentation and rationalization of existing and new alarms.
Qualifications
The successful candidate will meet the following qualifications:
- 5+ years of experience in control room operations is preferred.
- 3+ years of pipeline field operational experience is preferred.
- Knowledge of industry standards including API 1167, ISA and EEMUA are preferred.
- Experience should include an understanding of process engineering and alarm management, philosophy and rationalization.
- Strong interpersonal skills to work in a team and customer environment handling multiple projects simultaneously.
- Be able to coordinate effectively between multiple organizational groups to achieve a specific objective, while maintaining a critical thinking perspective and applying creative solutions.
- Ability to interface effectively with regulatory agencies, customers and company employees is required.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite of applications is required, especially in Microsoft Excel, SharePoint and Outlook.
- Capacity to plan, organize work and write standard operating procedures is required.
- Strong communication and presentation skills, both oral and written, with the ability to communicate with individuals at all levels both internally and externally.
